Crofton Park

The Brief

To create a low budget, low maintenance garden that is dog friendly and to be mainly used for entertaining in a post Covid world. North facing with a few pockets of sunshine throughout the summer months. The house is very contemporary with dark colours so although there needed to be a conversation between the house and the garden, due to the lack of light, the owner felt that the colours should be brighter greys and textured greens with a few colour accents.

Design

Low maintenance composite decking provided a seating and dining area. Evergreen architectural plants and some colourful perennials along two sides the deck with planting that will eventually spill over it to soften the dark edges. Two large birch trees at the end of the garden provide not just privacy but a visual full stop and can also be appreciated while working from the owner’s office upstairs. A side entrance of gravel leads into a gravel garden area in front of the deck. This will eventually provide privacy but also a sense of a journey as the gravel path winds round it to reach the step to the decked area. The planting seems to grow out of the garden naturally and eventually they will self seed to make an even more naturalistic feel.

Before

Testimonial

I couldn't be happier with my new garden - it's both beautiful and practical, delivering lush, easy to care for planting and a huge space for entertaining. Chris was excellent to work with. He really listened to what I wanted, then pushed the design to the next level. When we discovered a mains sewer he was really responsive, quickly amending the design to meet building regulations. I would highly recommend Christopher Gordon Garden Design.
